Curriculum Programs The aim of the College curriculum program is to ensure that students have access to a comprehensive education covering the eight key learning areas in their early secondary school years, and are then able to exercise choice to explore and extend their educational interests and skills in preparation for VCE and further study. An extensive extension and enrichment program also
operates at each year level to stretch and challenge student learning. In Junior School, students undertake a common curriculum covering all key learning areas: Periods per Week
* 'Visual & Performing Arts and Technology' includes: Ceramics, Computer Aided Design, Drawing and Painting, Drama, Food Technology, Visual Communication, Metal Technology, Classroom Music, Printmaking, Textiles and Wood Technology. At least six of these areas (including a minimum of two each from Visual Arts, Performing Arts and Technology) are taken by each student during Years 7 and 8. Students are also able to select the LOTE study of their choice, learn a musical instrument, choose from a range of sports, which includes recreational activities and interschool competitions, as well as a summer and winter outdoor education camp. Middle School: Years 9 & 10 In Middle School, students continue study of their core subjects, but are also able to select three electives each semester, to explore and extend their learning. Students also participate in an extensive career education and work experience program as well as participating in leadership training. Core Periods Per Week
Electives Each elective is taken for 4 periods per week. Years 9 and 10 students are in vertical groupings in most electives. Electives include: Ceramics, Circus, Creative Writing, Community Drama, Drama, English as a Second Language, Fashion Studies, Film Theory, Finance, Food Technology, French, Glass, 'Healthy Lifestyles', Italian, Jewellery, Metal Technology, Music (small group and ensemble), Music Technology, Outdoor Education, Painting, Philosophy, Photography and Multimedia, Printmaking, Personal Development, Sculpture, 'Taking Care of Business', Team Ball Games, Theatre Production, Visual Communication, 'Wet & Wild' and Wood Technology. Senior School: VCE, VCAL & VET The Victorian Certificate of Education is divided into semester length units undertaken across Years 11 & 12. Access to VCE units is available to Year 10 students where this is appropriate. The College is able to offer one of the most comprehensive range of VCE studies available including: Accounting, Art, Biology, Business Management, Chemistry, Classical Societies & Cultures, Drama, English, English as a Second Language, Geography, History, Health & Human Development, History (Revolutions), Information Processing & Management, Information Systems, International Politics, Legal Studies, Literature, LOTE (French, Italian), Mathematics (Foundation, General, Methods, Specialist), Media Studies, Music (Solo and Group), Outdoor Education, Philosophy, Physics, Psychology, Physical Education, Studio Arts (Fashion, Photography and Printmaking), Technological Design & Development, Twentieth Century History and Visual Communication & Design. VCAL units are offered in English, Maths and Personal Development. The school also offers access to a broad range of VET - Vocational Education and Training units, including Clothing Design & Production, Small Business Practice, Sport & Recreation, Electronics, Furnishing, Information Technology, Hospitality*, Multimedia, Furnishing, Multimedia*, Music Industry, Mechanical Engineering, Sport & Recreation (* taught at PHSC).
