SENIOR INTERSCHOOL
SOCCER C THURSDAY, MAY 4, SOUTH YARRA
Congratulations to the players who represented the school at the Yarra
District Inter School Senior Soccer Championships last Thursday. The
girls recorded a two-all draw against the very strong McRob Girls team
and then defeated Brunswick 4-0. Unfortunately, we lost to the undefeated
Uni High team 0-1 and were eliminated from the next round of competition.
The boys won two games and lost 2 games in a very strong competition.
Thanks to the teachers for their assistance on the day.
NORTHERN ZONE SWIMMING CARNIVAL
Well done to the students who represented the school at the recent Northern
Zone Finals, which were held at The Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre.
A special thanks to James who made the extraordinary effort to compete
for the school and then fly to Canberra for the Year 9 camp. At this
level, students must come first to progress to the State Finals. We
had a number of place getters but unfortunately our swimming campaign
finished with no students able to record a first placing. The efforts
of James, Sam and Tiger are to be commended for finishing in the top
three.
TENNIS STATE FINALS C HERE WE
COME!
Congratulations to our winning intermediate tennis
team who won the recent Northern Zone Final at the Melbourne Tennis
Centre. Our team defeated Lalor SC and the very strong Mill Park and
St Helena teams. The Grand Final was a thrilling encounter with both
St Helena and Princes Hill winning two singles matches each. We were
down in both doubles matches but Gary and Winston somehow managed to
win their match, after Keir and Julien lost 3-6. The State Final is
on Mon, May 23.
MIDDLE SCHOOL PE
Healthy Lifestyles for Boys
/Girls C Wheel chair basketball
The groups combined on Thursday to attend a session
at the Carlton Baths Gymnasium with the Victorian Wheel Chair Association.
Students learned how to play wheel chair basketball with our visitor
who is a paraplegic after a dirt bike
accident in 2003. He spoke about his 2 month stay in hospital and about
the long
and frustrating 10 months he spent at the Austin Hospital. He spoke
about making choices and having the strength to say "no" to
your mates when engaged
in risk taking activities. His best friend dived from a tree on a river
bank and
is now a quadraplegic. Our visitor has used sport and competition to
get his life
back. He is the current world water-skiing champion.
MIDDLE SCHOOL COACHING:
Congratulations to the middle school coaching class
who coached all of their
Brunswick South Primary School students to victory at interschool sport
matches
last Friday. After a season of losses in term 1, the primary students
were very
grateful to their coaches who acted as fabulous role models throughout
the
afternoon.
