Princes Hill Secondary College

Welcome to the phsc ict page

The recently completed phase of the building program has provided several new areas for ICT access. Music have moved to renovated quarters on the ground floor and two new computer rooms have been established on the top floor. Significant planning for the new layout and subsequent relocation of the equipment have kept the ICT faculty busy.

Currently we possess computers housed in eight rooms including music and photography labs. The library also utilises several machines for research and accessing the library catalogue. In addition, staff room computers and printers have been recently upgraded. Related resources, such as digital cameras and data projectors, continue to be in high demand across the college.

Markbook, the computerised student reporting system, has been fully rolled out for two years and is operating well. In addition it has become the centralised database for student enrolments and absences in the middle school.

A trial is currently underway to use a Pocket PC to record absence data for school classes. This software will enable coordinators to track student progress period by period and have this data available in a more immediate fashion.
Email continues to grow in use around the college. Some staff are using email lists to facilitate contact with parents and various student groupings.
As a result of the parent newsletter email list, fewer paper copies of the newsletter are required to be sent home.

Data backup across the college has been further strengthened with the addition of a 2 terabyte hard drive unit. This enables us to store the contents of the college server’s hard disks onto a single storage unit.
Professional Development within the college continues to be offered on a one-to-one basis with computerised reporting, digital cameras, data projectors, maximising functionality of notebook computer usage, antiviral issues and firewall software regular features. The ICT coordinator also has a regular allowance of time to help staff with ICT issues after school one day per week.
