ASISTM
Projects The ASISTM Project aims to bring about real and permanent improvements to the ways in which science, technology and mathematics are taught. Project activities aim to enable schools to come together with industry, science organizations, universities and others to explore ways to encourage a culture of innovation, attract greater numbers of quality students into teaching, improve coordination between primary and high school curricula and provide positive role models for students. The Australian Hydrogen and Fuel Cells Education Program
From Fundamental to New Chemistry Princes Hill SC is one of the participating organizations in "From Fundamental to New Chemistry", together with Footscray City College, Ivanhoe Grammar School, Macleod College, Northcote HS, and Viewbank College. The project coordinator is La Trobe University, School of Educational Studies, under the leadership of Assoc Prof Wan Ng. "From Fundamental to New Chemistry" aims to enhance students’ understanding of molecular properties. VCE Chemistry and years 7 - 10 science teachers will use freely accessible web-based software and databases to enable students to explore 3-dimensional molecular structures and learn about their functions in chemistry, physics and biology. Their applications in areas including nanotechnology and medicinal chemistry will also be explored. An expert teacher will spend time in each school to support teachers to use these tools to their full potential. Learning materials will be developed and new resources integrated into the curriculum. The College has purchased a class set of datalogging equipment through the Investing In Our Schools grant. Science teachers are currently participating in professional development activities to familiarize themselves with the new equipment and to explore its e-learning curriculum potential; they are beginning to utilize the equipment to provide students with 'hands-on' investigation experiences. The College has purchased a high-resolution digital microscope camera. It is already being utilized in VCE Biology classes and Years 7 - 10 Science classes, as teachers become familiar with this technology, and its teaching and learning potential. Interactive Whiteboards (IWBs) Each of the College's four Science Laboratories has an Interactive Whiteboard (IWB). Science teachers are in the process of learning to create 'flipcharts' using our IWB software.
